Fast Facts: Dolphins

Dolphins are brilliant creatures that we have the pleasure of seeing year-round in North Carolina! It is always an exciting moment when you spot on in the water. Here are some fast facts about dolphins!

-Dolphins are marine mammals.

-They have a blow hole on top of their head to release and take in air when they breach the surface of the water.

-Dolphins have signature clicks that allow them to communicate. They even have clicks that identify each dolphin, like names.

-They have expert echolocation!

-The Orca (Killer Whale) is the largest dolphin.

-Dolphins have larger brains than humans!

-A group of dolphins is called a pod.

-Some dolphins can swim faster than 20mph.

– Dolphins have two stomachs. One is where they can store food and one is where they digest.

Dolphins are highly intelligent and we feel so special every time we get to see them!
