Sea Turtle Camp Employees – Where Are They Now?

The Sea Turtle Camp team is comprised of expert Marine Science educators and an administrative staff who bring with them professional experience, in-depth knowledge, and a broad range of skill sets. Our camp counselors are passionate about marine biology and the study of coastal ecosystems, and they are excited to share this passion with curious campers who have also discovered the importance and wonder of this field! We take only the top candidates and are extremely proud to provide one of the greatest employment opportunities available among summer camps. But, being a summer camp and offering seasonal positions, we are always so sad to say goodbye (mostly see you laters) to employees. We are always so thankful to the ones that come back year after year, but also keep up with the ones who have taken up other amazing marine science opportunities. So, let’s see what they’re up to now!

Juliet Gressle – Juliet was a counselor with us for two seasons, one in NC and the other in Hawaii. Now she works on an island in the Maldives for Marine Savers! “Most of my mornings consist of helping the marine biologists feed and care for the 35+ Green, Hawksbill, and Olive Ridley sea turtle patients we have here at the Marine Discovery Centre. I also record the feeds, net the pools, and help the assistant marine biologist with the turtle’s treatments. Learning more about the medical side of taking care of turtles has been really eye-opening and I’m excited to learn more about it. Recently, I have been helping the marine biologists lead some snorkel trips, which I’ve loved. The marine life here is like nowhere else I’ve ever been, and being able to see so many species on the reefs has been unreal!

Olivia Loveday – Soon after STC, Olivia took her love for sea turtles abroad and became a Field Assistant in Playa Grande, Costa Rica for The Leatherback Trust. The Leatherback Trust is an international non-profit conservation organization that protects leatherback turtles and other sea turtle species from extinction.  She now participates in sea turtle monitoring programs and engages volunteers or visitors in scientific research activities. After her term in Costa Rica she is coming back to camp for summer 2019!

Laura Goodlee – Laura was also with us for two amazing seasons in NC and is now an environmental educator in the Bahamas for International Field Studies! “We are a nonprofit that runs hands on environmental education programming trips to the Bahamas. At the field station I get to snorkel coral reefs, jump into blue holes, and teach about local flora and fauna to high school and college students. It’s insane!”
